“…to conserve the integrity, history and age of fine wood is my way of life.” -Stephen Rice, Master Restorer
Stephen Rice is a master restorer of fine antique furniture, specializing in the 18th and 19th century periods. His expertise includes the restoration of furniture with complex designs such as Boulle, Marquetry and Inlaid Woods.
He began his career as a restorer of English antiques in Monterey, California. Dedicated to the
artistic integrity of his craft, Stephen travelled to Paris where he studied under the internationally
known restorer, Francois Germond, formerly from the House of Jansen. While in Paris, Stephen
learned the old world techniques that have been handed down among furniture craftsmen for
centuries. Repairs, rebuilding and joinery are performed in the tradition of the old masters. Waxes
and polishes are individually blended according to original formulas.
In 1985, he founded his own company, Heritage Restorations. Since then, Stephen has developed
a following among private collectors, dealers, museums and goverment institutions throughout the
Washington, D.C. and surrounding areas.
